Default 6 Speed

I am new to the LS 1 style motors, have always run early SBC.
Will a early style scattershield work on a LS1 motor with a Richmond 6 speed
or will I need some kind of a spacer for it.?

Thanks
Speedy

The old style scatter shields won't work with the T56. We are running a special on Quicktime blow proof bellhousings right now. They are SFI approved and are made from thick wall spun steel and they come with a block protector plate. I run one in my car and after seeing so many clutch failures lately I wouldn't dump a clutch without one anymore. Here is a link to our special pricing. Give us a call or shoot me a PM if there is anything we can do for you.

I wouldn't even think of putting in a Richmond 6-spd. The Tremec unit is great, and can handle plenty of power.
As mentioned above, the Quick Time bell is a good unit.

I appoligize I misread what you were actually wanting to do. I thought you said

"Will a early style scattershield work on a LS1 motor "from" a Richmond 6 speed
or will I need some kind of a spacer for it.?"

Yea as TDP said befor, no way would I used a richmond. They are VERY old tech. They work basically like an old Muncie or Borgwarner 4 speed. They use bronze blocking rings which do not work even half as well as the carbon rings available for the T56.

The LS_ crank face is about .4" forward from a SBC/BBC.
You may notice that one of the sponsors here is making a 3/8" plate so the F-body T56 input can be used with the CTS-V pilot bearing. That bearing sits in the larger, further back portion fo the crank. That bearing might be enough to make up the difference. There are extended pilot bushing options too. Measure.

As for the synchros, I enjoyed driving a friend's Richmond 6 (3.01 first, .6x sixth) and if I had one, I would be hard pressed to justify going to a T56 unless the Richmond was breaking. Some of them are already 32 spline (TH400 size) output.
