Default Buy LT1 T56 and Convert to LS1?

Hello all. I'm looking at purchasing a T56 for my budget NASA build with the LS1 and have come across a heck of a deal on a T56. I see it was made by Borg-Warner so I know it was from the LT1 years. Couple questions, though... Would it really be worth changing out the input shaft, front cover, and bellhousing (bellhousing is already cracked, so that's no big deal to swap)?
The cost I have on the T56 is $650 (does that sound reasonable for an LT1 T56?), and I figure $75-$125 for the new bellhousing and another ~$150 for input shaft/front cover. So ~$900 for an "LS1" T56.

Another question is... Is it possible to find out what year car the transmission came out of? I know Tremec took over things in '98, so it has to be '93-'97. But I see the torque rating of a '93 being 350 and '94+ being 450. The car will have some power being put through it and I DO NOT want a '93.

This is the stamp I have found:

Or just say screw it and fork out the extra cash for a ready to rock T56 that would be newer?

Thanks!

As long as its a 94-up , you can swap the input shaft and mid plate to make it a Ls1 type T56.
