Honestly at the power levels you should be making, you might be better off selling your unit and purchasing a T56 Magnum with a F Body tailhousing on it. You can upgrade your T56 with a larger output shaft and all the upgraded shift related parts inside it but the actual gears themself can only take so much. The Magnum offers a wider faced gear which allows the unit to handle an increased amount of torque. A 408 on any decent amount of boost should make over 800 ft lbs of torque and possibly as much as 1000 ft lbs of torque.

This will be a weekend driver no drag racing in it I have had my fair share of drag racing and don't want to do it anymore.

I'd still go that route if it were my car. What kind of power do you expect it to make? How heavy is the car going to be?

We'd love to build a t56 or magnum for you. At those power levels I would probably go with the magnum like thesouce has already stated. The teeth of the input shaft and cluster gear in the t56 just can't take the abuse of a high torque, heavy street car.

We have a t56 magnum built and ready to ship here at the shop already modified for a bolt in swap for f-bodies and GTO's. The magnum is our new "level 4" build and is new from front to back. If you have a t56 you were planning to build we'll even take it in as a core to bring the final cost down. Pricing on the modified magnums start at $4495 shipped.
