Default too much transmission ?

my question is this i have a 01 bird 6 speed with headers, 243's, borla exhaust any way i am building a 408 that will be supercharged. i just drive the car on days off and see the track everyonce in a blue moon. well i was talkin to a buddy of mine and tellin him that i wanna have the tranny rebuilt with viper components my have it built by tick but tdont know yet. any way the car will be driven even less now that winter is comin up, so i said why not build it now and install it possibly by spring. that way whenmy engine is done around late summer i wont have to worry about the tranny getting rebuilt, and can jus drop in the engine and go have fun! well when i said this my buddy said jus wait til the engine is ready because its too much tranny for the car right now. i was like WTF i had never heard of this, is there such thing as too much transmission for the car.

If you know you'll need it in the near future there is no reason not to do it now if you can. It's not going to affect anything if the trans is built for a more powerful setup.

What a not so logical way of thinking your buddy has!

I have a rebuilt trans and a twin disk clutch in mine and it's all rated much higher than my measly 350rwtq...for now You will be perfectly fine with beefed up trans in the car right now. Some people actually prefer to do the driveline components first before the big hp/tq gets dropped in. It won't hurt anything.

thats what i was thinking. hahaha i mean i know about having to much power for your drivetrain to handle but never to much drivetrain for the engine

Theres no such thing as too much transmission!!! Do it right the first time, or do it again!!

I have a RPM Built Level V, full Viper spec, cryo'd, micropolished internals behind a cam, full bolt on 00 WS.6. Well, technically its sitting on the floor in front of me right now, since im in the middle of a clutch swap LOL.

I originally bought it to go behind our old 02 WS.6 with just a lid, catback, and 3.73s. I think the cryo/micropolished internals had something to do with it dynoing 351/372.

I agree with a few people here so far. You might as well build it while the car is down for winter and not have to worry about taking it back apart when you would be otherwise enjoying your car. There really isn't too much transmission but there is such a thing as going overboard on a build and spending more money than you need putting a TR6060 behind a 350-550hp car lol. Shoot me a PM if you have any questions.

I agree totally with you...Your drivetrain should be built to handle much more than what the engine will produce...and If you dont, most of the time you will be sitting on the side of the road or watching your car get loaded on a wrecker...

I guess by what some places will say or have you think, GM did not know anything about building excellent top quality fast sports cars...

BTW, GM did know what to do...2008 & up C6 manual Corvettes have TR6060's in them from the factory...They knew T56's had there limits...
