Default short shifter opinions

I am rebuilding my transmission and installing my clutch this winter. So figure I will get a new Shifter as well. This is my first manual car so have no experience to go off of. I was leaning towards a pro 5.0 as those are commonly used by people on this board. But I also like what I hear about the mgw Shifter. I also wanted to add a lou as well. Any opinions are welcome. I have a 02 ws6

mgw is amazing. you dont have to mess with stops, and the throws are short and precise

That's what I hear. Have you used the pro? None of my friends have an aftermarket shifter

my friend had one in his camaro. it was angled toward the driver, and that was a deal breaker for me. other than that, it was a good shifter

I've had the Lou's short stick with the stock Hurst Shifter and it works well for me. I have heard that the MGW is a pretty good too. I think there was a youtube video on the overall feel for the MGW on an F-Body and I was convinced. I say go for the MGW.

I think you'll like it, it's a great piece. Smooth, quick, and very solid feeling.

since i switched to the MGW, i have never missed 3rd gear.

shifter is made solid, and when shifting at high rpm's it feels like the shifter is doing the thinking and moving for you, just got to give it a little shove. I would never use another shifter no matter what I drive, never thought a couple hundred dollars would make such a huge difference.

and no, I don't work for MGW, lol, just love the shifter that much.

i think you will find that most people that choose the 5.0, have never used the MGW.

I have used the 5.0, the MGW, the stock hurst, and the stock regular shifters. Although the 5.0 is a good upgrade, the MGW is superior to all

I know the loud short doesn't fit on it. Bit I like how it points towards the driver. Is there a stick like it that fits the mgw?

The included MGW stick is pretty short, I don't know how much you'd gain by swapping in a different one.

I was more concerned with it leaning towards the driver. I liked the feeling of it on my buddys.

Some have complained on here that the MGW moves the handle too far towards the driver, where as I think it's a perfect position (and it seems many others do). My point is it does seem to move it towards the driver a bit, and it might be perfect for you. It would be really nice if you could find a friend that had one to try out, otherwise....you could always buy it and see if you like it

^^ THIS!

you can't miss a 2-3 upshit. this is a freaking good shifter. I use to have B&M ripper on my old Z28 and really love it...but now with the MGW, I have a superior feeling in my hand!!!! really precise short throw and hard return spring make it the best choice on the market IMO. the only complaint I have, and in reality isn't one, take your time to learn how it work. right after the instal, i went to the dragstrip and miss 2 1-2 upshit in a row because the 2nd gear ins't in the same place than with the oem piece of **** shifter. it was my bad! I never miss a shift after that.

with the MGW you will be more than happy!

I don't think it's that it isn't in the same place, I think it's just the spring causing more force to try to get you into 4th, lol.

My only problem at first was going from 2-5 instead of 2-3 because I had never used a short throw shifter before

So when I order this do I get the 12mm with the offset to get it tilted towards the driver?
