transmission upgrades for the t56 really aren't as pricey as most think, of course depending on what company and what level you choose. The pricier options usually involve the viper (or better) mainshaft conversion.

I believe he asked if it was possible to bolt up a Corvette unit to his F body as a direct fit. The answer to that is NO. It is possible to use the internals of the Corvette with additional parts to build a unit that is a direct fit though.

i havent found one. just thought if it was possible. my transmissions synchros are going out. just main reason i havent taken it the track after an engine rebuild. i thought it would be easier to find a corvette transmission and slide it right in and drive. but im guessing modifications would have to be done in order for it to fit correctly. just a thought that popped in my head. and wanted ppls opinions. and thanks for the info itll come in handy sooner or later.

As thesource said, it's not a plug and play. If you want some background/info, I wrote-up a DIY conversion by using a factory GTO or SSR mainshaft.

I believe Jason at TDP will be providing these conversions through his shop shortly also, with a modified SSR mainshaft.
(Jason, can you post up a thread on your mainshaft? I can't seem to find the 9310 mainshaft thread where we were talking about it???)

You basically have to change the front bearing retainer (front part of the T56) to an f-body style, and change the tailshaft housing to an f-body style. Then you have to use a GTO mainshaft, and an f-body/GTO shift rail. I do this specific conversion for $250 on top of a regular Stage 2 build, which is $680 + 250 = $930 starting price. The only reason I can do it this cheap is that I have several different types of T56s at the moment, so I don't have to go out and pay for the conversion parts (which would be $500-550). Check out Mike's link as it explains all this in detail.

Thats weird about that thread disappearing...
I'll take a pic of the shaft at the shop today and post it up tonite in a new thread. If everything goes well, that build will be done today.
