LT1 to Muncie M22 questions
Ok, i've been searching around and can't find any definitive answers, so i thought i would ask. I need to mate a 95 LT1 to a Muncie M22... now before your panties get in a wad, no its not going into a 2nd-5th gen... Its going in my 68 camaro. No, i am not gonna sell it and get a T56... Yes, i am sure i want to use the M22 because its already in the car...
With that out of the way, from what i've read i need a Flywheel from a 3rd gen with a 1 piece rear main... do i need to send it out to be balanced like an LT1 flywheel?? what clutch do i use... any recomendations on a flywheel/clutch combo. Any unforseen problems i might run into.
Thanks in advance

I *think* all you need is the flywheel. If it were me doing it, I'd definitely have a machine shop balance the new flywheel to match the flywheel that was on your engine.....it's cheap insurance to keep from having any vibration issues. Then you should be able to run any gen 1 clutch/bell for the m22.

I think all you have to do is change the flywheel to the Gen 1 small block style, but it has to be 1987 or newer as that is when they went from a 2-pc rear main to a one piece. The bolt pattern on the LT1 crank is identical to the one-piece SBC. I actually have a RAM billet steel flywheel that I'd LOVE to sell This flywheel has been sitting at my shop for a few years, and has barely even been used. The beauty of it is that it allows you to use a 12in clutch (LS1 style). So, one of the clutch kits that I sell will actually work perfectly with this setup. Maybe I can make you a deal. www.diamondclutch.com

All 86-up production SBC Gen I and II (4.3 V8, 5.0 and 5.7) take the same flywheel balance. A 1986 305 and a 1996 LT4 and a 2002 GMC Vortec van all have the same flywheel balance.
A 153 or 168 tooth flywheel will work as long as the block is drilled for both starter bolt patterns.
You can use the 86-92 305 F-body flywheel and if your M22 has a fine-spline input, the clutch from the same app. Otherwise, to match that flywheel, you're looking for a 10.5 disc clutch w/ the correct spline hub.

The flywheel that I have is the 168 tooth so its meant for a 12in clutch. I would sell it for 180+ shipping.
Speedway Motors sells it for $280 here

Let me know
If you buy this flywheel, I'll sell you the Diamond Clutch Stage 1 basic kit for $350, Stage 2/Stage 3 for $400.
So $530-580 total for everything you need, including the pilot bearing, throw out bearing, and alignment tool. I'll also include the the pressure plate bolts, as they are standard as opposed to the metric ones the LSx's use.
