Doing a build for 500 Rwhp or so. I just bought a car and it has 168,000 miles for tghis project. I want to get the tranny built because the rear is on the way as well as the motor build being in progress. What stage build would I need? And if I come up from Houston with the car could we do it there? What would the cost be? I am sure this trans will need something coming out of the car but as it sits now it shifts well. I know you won't know the core price until you get into it. Just curious mainly about the other info. Thanks.

I've sent a few to Canada and it has been roughly double as shipping in the states. $160-$220
If you have a friend who lives close to the border, it makes thing much easier to ship there so we wouldn't have to deal with customs. Then you'd just have to drive over and pick it up. About one out of every four seems to get held up in customs.

The triple cone rings were designed for smoother shifting and high RPM shifting. If you are shifting at 6500 or less then theres no point in going with them as the difference is minimal. When using this style of ring, you have to use the corresponding gear set that has the provision for these rings. The GTO T56, for example, already has this setup from the factory. When going with the lower gearing (2.97 first), triple cone is the only option while still retaining the transmission's strength. Hope this helps.

BTW I'm out of stock at the moment. We are building 3 units that are already sold and two more are in line waiting. So if you want to get added to the list, then give me a call. Even though the line is starting at 6th, etc, the waiting time will be about 7-10 business days.

If you are able to drive the car up to the shop, we can do the rearend build and the trans all in one day. I'd do the Stage 2 build. To R&R&rebuild the trans youre looking at $950. Any additional parts will cost more. With 168k miles, probably a bearing kit and a couple synchro assemblies. I'd count on spending an additional $400-600 on the trans. If you want a clutch installed at the same time, I can make a really good package deal (about $150 off the total bill). Go to www.diamondclutch.com to check out the options.
For the rearend, it runs $650 total parts and labor for any ratio of GM gear and all bearings/seals, including the axle bearings/seals.

Give me a call for more info. Number is in the sig.

He is a great guy to deal with. I meat him up at his shop today and he gave me the honest truth about my tranny. I might not need a rebuild but I think I am going to still have him tear into it and do some upgrades.

If I can't find one locally I'll probably be giving you a call in the near future. It's nearly impossible to find ls1 t56 transmissions around here...

can you tell a difference between a micro polished t56 versus a regular one? just wondering if the additional $ is worth it?

What he said, also are the cryo'ed gears worth the $ as well? Car will be iron 370 F1 procharger @ 16#'s of boost later down the road.

ok, maybe a weird question, or maybe you got it before? What do you know of in the way of a lightweight performance manual transmission? Is t56 pretty much all there is to mess with on our cars, or is there some way to go to a lighter 5 spd tranny that is built, and would still have the same gear ratio in 5th as the t56 does in 6th. I know this isn't really where you were going w/this thread, but you seem to be very knowledgeable about transmissions, and our cars. Thank you!

Yes he is always looking to purchase transmissions. He has parted out a few cars just for the trans.

Give him a call or text and he can talk to you about what he pays for trans

Same here. Just recently got a t56 car. Seems to be fine. Putting a clutch in it sat but want to save this just in case.

This is perfect. You guys deal with LT1's as well right? This is exactly what i need. doing a t56 swap. Ive Been looking for a company that just sells them outright without a core charge.

how much rwhp/rwtq do your rebuild transmissions hold? or are they just rebuilt to stock specs with the upgrades pieces?

Hey man,

I know its probably in this thread, but for my 2002 Z28 Id like to send it in possibly soon to swap out to maybe a stage 2...with the mods in my signature im thinking its about 460-480hp at the flywheel, and im really at a crossroads of what i want to do. it grinds going into 2nd gear now so i cant speed shift into 2nd anymore...if i take an extra 2 seconds on my shift from 1st into 2nd it wont grind(baby it into gear). im thinking synchro? anyways everything else works great in it...what do you think for a ball park price I would have to pay to swap it out and shipping would be from Rochester NY...thanks for all your help in advance man.
