Default 6spd notchy in the cold?

In the cold weather I have found that my T56 is very notchy, almost not wanting to shift especially in the 1-2 and 2-3 for about 20 minutes of starting the car. I am just wondering if this is really just due to the cold or are my syncros going? I bought the car in September so this is my first winter with it.

I also have a MGW shifter if that makes any difference.

Thanks,
Dave

My ENG SEN fuse went out and made it real hard to put it in any gear. At first I thought it was the cold but when the fuse finally went out it was nearly impossible to shift any gear. I put the new fuse in and now it shifts easy and smooth. After searching through some threads, the T56 does seem notchy in colder conditions.

It's the cold.

WHEN I drove my m6 car in the winter, you need to go very easy until heat up the engine and put some miles on the car.

Oddly enough when I put in Pennzoil Synchromeshm, it got better. Being a "Thicker" fluid I found that kinda odd but I guess it provides a good enough barrier.

Yup, it's the cold. Don't beat on it within any quick time of starting it up (shouldn't anyways). Usually around 10 minutes of driving or so, it feels better, at least mine anyways.

My car is currently my daily, until the weather warms up enough for me to change the starter on my truck (I hate being cold). That said, I experience the same notchy feeling every morning and every night on my way home. After warming up, it shifts just fine.

As stated, go easy on the shifting, and don't beat on the car - at least until it is warmed up and shifting better.

Yeah it's the cold for sure. I punched the stereo hard enough to cut my hand and make it swollen trying to get it in gear. Luckly it was right below the radio

I cut my hand on my radio when my hand slipped trying to hit third. M6's are a PITA overall.

To the op, I had my synchros replaced and some other trans. work done when I first got my car and it still is notchy and grinds some going into gear when it's cold so your synchros are probably fine.

When I swapped out the factory fill for Mobil 1, the 1-2 shift got much scratchier when cold. I drained it and refilled with Dexron III and it improved. Your fluid could contributing to the issue.

My 3-4 grinds when it's cold and every gear is notchy.

Give it a few minutes to warm up and it shouldn't be a problem.

Check my thread in the manual section on this very topic... There's a remedy a few people have had luck with involving a bolt on the side of the trans. I would post the link if I weren't on my iPhone.

You might need to bleed your hydraulic lines or actually replace something. I say that because I had this exact issue and it turned out to be the slave cylinder leaking.

At any rate... the link to the thread I mentioned above in the Manual Sections is https://ls1tech.com/forums/manual-tr...g-shifter.html

Thanks guys. I was just wondering if it was only me. I am in the process of replacing my rear end and was hoping that something else wasnt wrong since I spent enough on that.

Sounds like your clutch is disengaging. Next time it happens shut the car off and see if you can shift it into reverse then start the car. If so your clutch isn't fully disengaging. You could just try bleeding your clutch first.
