Default quicktime bellhousing and clutch shimming ?s

Getting ready to put my trans back in. Installed quicktime bellhousing and a monster stage 3. Has anyone else had to shim their slave cylinder due to using this bellhousing. Mine with the motorplate measures approx .120 thicker than the stock bellhousing which is throwing off the pressure plate to slave measurement. I am getting an approximate measurement of .150 shim size that I would need to use. Anyone else have this issue? How big of a shim did you need? Thanks

Ryan

I just installed one on my SS a few weeks ago. I thought the same thing. When I measured the QT bellhousing with the plate sitting on a work bench, it came in at 141.3mm. The stock bellhousing is suppose to be 140mm. Once the bellhousing it torqued down, it flatens and compresses the motor plate alittle bringing it back to almost 140mm. After the install, my clutch engagement point stayed exactly the same as it was with the stock bellhousing. Trust me, You'll be fine!

mine is definitely not fine. I measured it after installing it and the air gap for the clutch is 3 times more than recommended. did you measure your air gap?

Maybe the bell is the same and you need to look at the difference between the clutches. Either way measure and shim accordingly.

I didn't measure the old clutch stack. The only thing that I measured was the new vs old bellhousing and the air gap that the new clutch would have. The quicktime bellhousing is 1/8" thicker, the thickness of the motorplate that came with it. And the air gap will be in excess of .430" (.125" is recommended). This is a monster clutch, which is not supposed to need a shim, but it appears like I need atleast a .250" shim. Which I am fine with, just don't want to screw it up. I am debating only using a .125" shim to make up the differences in the bellhousing and hope the monster clutch was truely set up for no shim.

I've got a quicktime and a monster level 3. Didn't have to shim at all. The measurements came out perfect even with the motorplate.

I agree that the measurements dont lie. And it definitely needs shimmed. What gap did you set up your monster clutch with? .125"?

I don't remember exactly what it measured, but I used the sticky on this forum for a reference.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'm not sure whether I am going to shim it or not. Since it seems like everyone else just put it in and was fine. Worst case, I have to drop it again, and that wont take long anyway. Steve from Monster said it should be fine. But I don't know why I measured if I'm not going to shim it right. Decisions, decisions...

The mcleod bbc sbc to ls1 trans bellhousing is different then the quicktime one. and the depth is the major difference, measure it.
