Default How to service my 6 speed?

I'm new to manual transmissions. How do I change the fluid in my 99 z28 6 speed? Any suggest on best fluid to use? Can you use ATF in a manual?

Thanks for your help!

There's a plug that says drain and a plug that says fill pretty simple. You need 4 qts of atf to fill it up

I think Mobil 1 ATF is pretty common fluid, whatever you do DO NOT use synthetic unless you either a) have a built trans, and thats what the builder recommends, or b) you want a built trans.

I thought Mobil 1 ATF was synthetic?? I just used generic carquest dex/merc (dexron III). But yea it's real simple. Just unscrew the drain plug and let it all drain out. Get a hand pump or something (can be bought from any parts store) and pump the fluid into the fill plug on the other side. Fill it up until it starts to run out the bottom of the fill hole.

Pennzoil synchromesh seems to be popular for our trannys.
