How much wheel HP will an LS7 clutch really hold?

Most say 450rwhp. Your better off getting a stage 1 clutch from one of the sponsors like Monster or TDP, since the LS7 clutch is basically a LS6 with more surface area.

Search the Manual transmission section and you'll find a lot more info.

i have seen LS7 powered vettes make over 500 to the wheels and this clutch is still sufficient. there are plenty of guys on here with 50+ passes on this clutch dropping it at near 7k and it still drives like stock. unless you have nitris or a blower, this clutch is a very good upgrade from stock, with stock like feel to it. after my heads and cam, this clutch still holds up to low RPM 2nd gear burn outs. i love it

Definately over 500whp. The thing to know about the LS7 clutch is, its not a good choice to use for drag racing. IMO its a great clutch for a 500whp street car. It works great for a buddy of mine whose stroked C6 Vette makes well over 500whp.

That doesn't take away from what it is....a beefed up LS6. And im ust telling you the consensus after researching clutches for 2 months. The fact is too many people on here have had failures with them. You can get a Diamond stage 1 for less money and its a better clutch all around. You might be fine with the LS7 and you might not.

The LS7 clutch being an OE clutch was designed for smoothness in a light car. It uses a heavy flywheel, a disc with a low coefficient of friction and a self-adjusting pressure plate on a budget. With that being said it can't take a lot of abuse ie launching, power shifting as the disc will slip and the heat weakens the diaphragm springs not allowing the clutch to disengage. That is why our Level 1 is superior and is severely under-rated 450rwhp.

ok first off thanks for all of the input! here is my scenario however. I bought the car bolton and cam only with the ls7 clutch in it. It is my DD and I love the smoothness. As of now im probably at around 385 wheel HP. Im soon doing heads and more cam and Im wondering if the clutch will hold of course? then also if it doesnt whats my best option for this being my DD and occaisional mustang eater. Ive been to the track 3 times over about a year and dont launch any higher than idle (the car will always be on street tires)

Well it is cheaper than buying two clutches because the first one would not hold.

I'd personally just leave it in too if it's already in your car. You will more than likely be fine.

I have been running the ls7 clutch kit for about 3 years now and shes been great. Held up launching at 5k for 3 years on Hoosiers. I recently added a big cam and at 44x RWHP. Made 5 passes in first event and clutch held a 10.99 best pass leaving at 5800. Next event 3 weeks later, Clutch would not hold a launch at all.

The car still drives normal on the street but im a dragstrip junky so Shes done for and coming out for a Monster stage 3!!!!!!!

2 voices of reason...the clutch is already in the car...make your changes to the engine, and see what happens. I put an LS7 in my 4th gen with every bolt on...abused the hell out of it, and it never blinked an eye...I mean...MANY 45-50 mph 2nd gear full throttle dumps to blow the car sideways...many many launches...many many unnecessarily hard shifts for about 15K miles before I sold the car...and it continued to drive like a completely stock clutch, and never slipped on me ever. The new owner of the car has been enjoying the clutch with no issues as well...if your car had mods done to it and needed a clutch...then I'd consider aftermarket...but being a street car that's not going to get launched higher than idle much...I'd still say "get the LS7 clutch"...you already have it...run it...see what happens...if it treats you well and fails in 2 years...get another identical one.
