$1500 for clutch and flywheel replacement?
Brand new guy here..just bought a 2000 SS and it needs a new clutch..dropped it off at the Chevy dealer and without tearing it apart they suggested they replace the flywheel and slave cylinder also. Does this sound right or is this just another car dealership trying to make a few extra $$$? It has 78k on it with the 5.7 ls1. Also should I go with after market clutch or just go with the stock GM parts?

If it is a daily driver and will remain stock or bolt ons, I would put a ls6 clutch in it. I am about to replace the clutch in mine, and that is what I am going with since my car will be a bolt on car for a few more years and I plan to drive it daily. I would price some other shops. I was quoted 400 for the labor at one of the sponsors on this site, plus an additional 75 for the master cylinder install.
so, ls6 clutch $400 from the sponsors
tick master cylinder $300, this is something you need to do, they are superior to stock gm masters
remote bleeder line $50
slave cylinder $140
labor $475
roughly $1365 with upgraded parts over stock.

Run and hide from that dealership! Check out one of the MANY sponsors here on this forum for a good local installation, then check out our Tick Performance & Monster Clutch Complete Clutch Swap Package: http://www.tickperformance.com/ls1-f...-swap-package/
It comes with literally everything you should replace/upgrade when doing a clutch. The Level 1 is what I'd suggest for all stockish cars. Much, much better parts than factory GM.
