Default Clutch fluid shelf life?

Is it ok to use clutch fluid that has been on the shelf for about a year? I ask because I read somewhere that the fluid would obsorb moisture once the seal is broken on the bottle. Is this true, thanks?

If I have cracked the seal and never used it all and its been bout a year later I toss out and buy new. It's not that expensive.

GM clutch fluid (P/N 12345347) recommended for our cars is nothing more than DOT3 brake fluid. It absorbs moisture, so the instant you open a can, it begins to degrade. If a can of clutch fluid is open for more than a few days, it's done. A year old? Toss it and buy new because its ability to remove and hold moisture is gone.

OK, so what is everyone running. Any specific brand of fluid, or do I just go to the dealer and get it?

You can go to your local autoparts store and buy the fluid. I run prestone DOT 4 through my tick master. It has a higher boiling point than DOT 3, but you can use that all the same.
