Default t56 input shaft

Do you have to rip apart all t56 to get the input shaft replaced or is ther a easy way?

Once the tranny is pulled, there are about 10 bolts that will pull the front face off of the tranny. Once the face comes off, the input shaft comes off with it rather easily. No you dont have to gut the tranny to replace it, but it would be difficult to determine if the mainshaft bearing clearance is in spec without having the back off IMO.

If your input shaft tip is damaged, have Jason at TDP repair and reuse the existing shaft to ensure the bearing clearance remains the same. Throwing in a new or different input shaft might throw the clearance off unless you check it.

If the shim under the maindrive bearing outer race is pulled and the race held in place w/ assy. lube, you could check endplay off the pilot & re-shim accordingly. I've never done it that way; only pulled a front adapter plate to mod it. But it should work fine.
