Default Trans Fluid

So I changed my old trans fluid out last weekend with Royal Purple Synchromax and it shifted into every gear without any problems. Yesterday, it started popping out of reverse and now I have to hold it in reverse to keep it from shifting out of gear. Every other gear works perfectly. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

Why would u put that oil? My friend put it and had nothing but problems. Don't listen to everyone thinks that royal purple is the best. Stick with dexron 3 on your manual trans.

Tremec actually warned about using RP when I called them. They recommended M1 or Dex 3. The mobil made mine grind into gear so I switched back to Dex and smooth shifting. One problem I havnt been able to get away from is the noise in neutral idling. Like rocks in a grinder. Both of the 2 t56s Ive had have done it though.

Glad I opened up this post... I was planning on putting Royal Purple in my T56. But, from the looks of previous post RP isn't the way to go.

I would stick with what the manufacturer says to use... I think the workings of that tranny are designed to work with the fluid characteristics of DexIII... I just remembered changing one of my clutches in my old 96 t56 and I put in something other than Dex...(dont remember what) I dropped the tranny again cause I thought I messed up the clutch assy becuase it wouldnt go into gear at a stop. I drained the new fluid again( so it would be lighter) and spilled it so I refilled it with new cheap ****. I found nothing wrong with my tob or slave so I just put it back in. refilled with dex and had no engagement problem. I didnt think about it till now. The only difference was the dexIII....

If you go to the dealer they may not have "Dex III" in stock since almost everything else is compatible with Dex VI. Now its just called Manual Trans fluid P/N 88861800.
