Default shift light

I'm about to put a shift light in my Trans Am and I was just wondering how you guys set them up. Like say I want to shift at 6800 what rpm are you setting the light out since we as humans will have somewhat of a delay before acting. If I want to shift at 6800 would I set the light at say 6600? If this is the wrong section sorry. Thanks

Mine peaks @ 6500 RPM, so I set my shift light to come on right before that, 6400.
