So I drained my transmission since I had to remove the driveline on my 97 3.8 5 speed camaro. The fluid that came out was a light brown color... Every thread I've looked through everyone is saying something different for what to put in it. ATF seems to be what everyone recommends for the T56, and I cant seem to find much information on what to put in the T5. My question is, what fluid should I use for daily driving purposes? The tranny has about 120k on it, if that matters. Thanks in advance for the help.

Dexron III or IV was recommended at the time of manufacture. You won't gain anything from trying to upgrade unless the car is put through sustained hard use (over 120mph or roadcourse type driving)

Non synthetic Dextron/Mercon III is all you need in it.

I've been running Pennzoil Syncromesh in my T56s. It's the same stuff GM puts in theirs. Seems to always be smooth

I have a 1974 chev 1/2 ton SB pickup that I installed a T5 from a 1990 Camaro V8 about 7 years ago. The truck has been sitting for 3 years with a blown motor and i'm about to put it back on the road. What fluid would you guys recommend and anything else I should do besides replace it with a 6 speed? lol, The trans has about 120,000 miles of which I put 30,000. I don't drag race it just daily drive.
