Default t56 noise

i just finished my m6 swap a few weeks ago i have a lil issue. there is a weird noise coming from the trans, it only does it when i press the clutch in an put it in gear, if i take it out of gear and put it in neutral it goes away. it sounds like a bearing spinning or something. everything works fine, it shifts great and everything just that noise makes me a lil nervous. any ideas on what it could be?

Agreed. Sounds like the pilot bearing to me as well.

If it goes away with the car in gear and the clutch released, odds are good these guys are correct. If it still makes noise that way, you can rule out the pilot bearing.

it does it with the clutch released too. if i start the car push in clutch, put it in first with the clutch still down it starts making a noise like a bearing grinding or something, but if i take it out of gear and put it in the neutral position it goes away. it does it in all gears just setting still. when i put it in first and take off you can hear it in first but then it gets hard to tell whats going on because the car gets loud. ill try to make a video of it but my camera might not pick it up because of my exhaust.

Think about the power flow through the transmission in neutral and in gear. Power comes in the input shaft, and down through the cluster, (counter gear) through the selected gear, and out the mainshaft.

The only other possibility I could think of in this case would be the bearing between the input and the mainshaft. If that's the case, then it should be quiet in 4th gear since the input and the mainshaft are both turning the exact same speed. (1:1) The cluster turns at all times too so I doubt that's it or it would make some sort of noise all the time.

Cant tell anything from that vid. If the pilot is worn out it will make a wierd scuffing or wirring noise ONLY shifting into or between gears. Like said above, it will not make noise once your foot is off the clutch.

with the clutch in the input shaft isnt turning so there is no power going to the trans until you let off the clutch. what can make noise in the trans without the car moving. in the vid you can hear something starting to spin when when a gear is selected.
