Is this shifter ok to use?
Posting this on several site, just want to get as much exposure before I have to work on the car again tomorrow.
I really don't know what to call this part, but the plastic ring with tabs has worn down and broken. See the first picture. It is supposed to sit on the base of the shifter like in the second pic, but clearly does not anymore. I don't really have time to leave it out or the desire to get an aftermarket shifter, but am I going to start breaking **** if I throw this one back in?
If so, anyone within 100 miles of Milwaukee have an extra stock shifter laying around they want to get rid of?
EDIT: Should I end up putting it back in should I just take it off, epoxy the two end of the ring back together and try to get it to fit as best as possible? What does this dumbass piece even do? Sorry for the crappy pics, it's nice enough out but after a while the hands still start to shake.
