Default Replacing Clutch, Slave, Master, pulled motor out the bottom Pics!

Well one day my clutch decided to stop disengaging. Bleed it every way possible a 1,000 times but no luck. Replaced the master cylinder bleed it 1,000 more times and still no luck.

So I just pulled the motor out the bottom. I used this awesome guide - https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-m...ls1-fbody.html but I used an engine hoist. I figured it would make things much easier to get to. It definitely made things a lot easier. I remember the first time I changed my clutch and it was a pain in the ***. That was with a lift at a Auto Tech College. No way in hell was I just pulling the trans out from the bottom in my garage on my own.

Well once I got it all apart I found my issues.... First I found the front of the slave was shredded a little. Then I noticed the clutch disc spring broke off. Then what really left me confused was that the pilot bearing had no bearings This was a Textralia 0Z700 Clutch about 3-4 years old 20k -25k miles I think not 100% sure. Mabe 3-4 track passes and some minor on road abuse nothing crazy. Not really sure what went wrong here still taking pics of that mess.

So I ordered a LS7 clutch/flywheel kit and Tick Speed bleeder from http://www.tickperformance.com/ Everything I got from them was great! I even got free shipping . My order came in 3 days on the free shipping I was very impressed. I also got a GM slave, polyurethane motor/trans mount. Of course since it will be so damn easy like this spark plugs and new header gaskets. Also did the drill mod when I replaced my clutch master cylinder.

Working on replaced all this stuff and cleaning as much of the motor and parts as I can more pics to come.

I worked on it on and off pulling the motor and trans. I took my time for the most part and ran into a few snags here and there. Overall about a 8-10 hours to pull the motor and trans. I could easily do it in 4-5 hours now that I have done it.

Removing the trans mabe 1 hour, swapping clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder mabe 2 hours. Removing the pilot bearing and getting the trans back in wasted a day and half. I broke 2 pilot bearing pullers, 2 didn't work, 5th one was a charm. I started working on the motor mounts last night that wasn't 2 bad, got one finished. Still working on the rest

holy crap that takes ***** to get under a car like that! Out of curiosity how high off the floor is that car at the point where you have the jackstands located? How did you jack the car up to that height?

So if you need to replace the clutch/slave on these cars, the motor has to come out?

PS-the flywheel that came with your LS7 kit- is it aluminum? Because the one I have weights a million pounds so i'm sure it's OEM

You don't have to pull the motor but I just wanted to do it this way since I didn't have a lift or a transmission Jack. My flywheel wasn't aluminum.

Are you doing anything to the motor while it's out? Seems like you did an *** ton of work just to change a clutch.

You did all that for a clutch swap? Your nuts. Even a first timer shouldn't take more than 2 hours to take the trans out with a floor jack and jack stands.

It wasn't just for the clutch. I wanted replace motor/trans mounts with poly. And really pulling the body off the motor was a lot easier to me than just pulling the trans.

Motor/trans Mounts, Header gaskets, spark plugs all took less than an 2 hours all while sitting my lazy *** in a chair. That is priceless to me.

Swapping the slave, flywheel, Clutch, pilot bearing, rear main seal, would have only took me a few hours as well if I didn't get hung up with the shitty pilot bearing tools. Besides the removing the transmission part I did all of this with my lazy *** in the chair.

Really Pulling the body off the motor was super easy. You unplug some stuff take off the y-pipe (made sure mine would be easy to take off when I installed it), drive shaft, remove 10 bolts and lift it up with an engine hoist and roll it out. It wouldn't take me more than 3-4 hours to do next time. I haven't had to break my back this whole time either. That and know I know how to do it and I have everything I need to do again.

And your average first timer will most definitely take more than just 2 hours to just take out the trans. And puling it without a trans jack isn't that bad, but getting it back in without a trans jack is a nightmare.

I am also doing all of this myself so no one to give an extra hand here and there.

i'd leave the engine hoist supporting some of that load. the way those jack stands are set up and the way the cars angled so much makes it look a bit iffy

How come everyone always put their car on jackstand so high. Usually on some type of blocks. I just pulled my motor out the bottom for the first time last weekend. Used an engine hoist to lift the car, slid the motor and trans our the wheel well area and lowered the car back down to a normal height on jackstands. Wasnt under the car once. Took me 3-4 hours. Biggest PITA was getting my X-pipe off the headers. Id def pull the entire motor trans again to a clutch swap. It was just too easy and as the OP said it so much easier than being under the car for 3-4 hours.
