Default shifter question

hey guys, i wanna cut down my shifter handle an inch or so and I need to re-thread it after. I read that our thread size is 16mm x 1.5? I went to a couple hardware stores to try to find a nut to thread on so after I cut the handle down it will thread back off and clean up the threads. Any ideas? I even went to advance auto etc...

You need to find store that does nothing but sell nuts, bolts and fasteners.

You'd need to go to a place like Fasenall or Grainger to get a die to do that.

Why don't you just buy a short stick? It will be bent appropriately for the new geometry of the stick and will cost you less money than a threading tool.

because I can spend $1 on a nut that i just thread on to shifter then cut the shifter down, and thread it back off to clean the threads up. not worth $25 for the short stick. i have a pro5.0 in it now, ijust put a white hurst cue ball **** on it so it needs to be shortened a tad.

If you can thread a hardened steel shaft with a (relatively soft) nut, I'd love to see that. When you went to Advance, did you look for lugnuts in the correct size? That's probably the least expensive way to go. A store that carries regular nuts will charge you for a box of them, which would be almost expensive as a short handle. If you can get a nut, please post back with pics of the results.

Life will probably be better for you if you get the proper die: http://www.amazon.com/16mm-Carbon-St.../dp/B0007CNJ1S
