What rpm's do you all run...
I have a 98 camaro ss m6 and a friend of mine has a 00 ss basically identical cars. Well we have found out that our rpm's doesn't match and I was wondering what you all run. My car in 6th gear at 80 is pretty much right at 2000 rpm's at the same speed his is around 1800 and he can run 90 at 2000 rpm's. My car normally idles at a grand, with me having the older car and more milage I take it my rpm guage is off.

The factory tach in every '98 car I've tuned, mine included, reads ~200 rpm higher than actual engine speed all the way through the gauge sweep. Factory M6 idle is 800rpm, this is likely what's going on with yours since your tach says 1000 at idle. Put a scanner on it and you'll see actual RPM is ~200 less.

Thinking on it, I thought having a different rear end and wheels only threw off the speedo not the rpm gauge...I've had 3:73s in a Mustang and it did throw off the speed but the rpm's were exactly the same, other than them reving faster

At a constant speed the RPM will be different from someone with a different gear set.
RPM will still read the same but having lower (numerically higher) gears drops top speed in each gear but offers quicker acceleration.

Yeah I understand that I'm just saying it doesn't throw it off like the speedo. It still reads right but higher since of the rearend. But I'm pretty sure mine is flat out off I don't know of many cars that idle at a grand like mine indicates.

It's probably just your tach. My 98 is the same, I wouldn't really worry about it 200rpm really doesn't matter that much. If your really worried about accurate shift points then get a shift light.
