Default custom master cylinder

I was almost going to buy a tick master cylinder.. but then I had an idea after seeing a 240sx LS1 swap. Apparently they used a tilton master cylinder (same as what tick uses) and just made their own brackets with AN line. Has anyone tried this before? Im on a budget and seriously cant justify spending $325 for a
$100 master cylinder with a bracket and line...

I like tick and all but i want to do this for the experience and to save some money

also its been a while since i was in tech school when we learned about hydraulics. A larger cylinder bore moving less of a distance will make for a stiffer pedal correct? Or do i have that back-asswards? I want a STIFF pedal!

Thanks!

My Tick is certainly stiffer than stock. Even noticeable on stock clutch. I love my Tick unit, but like you said, it's just a Tilton with a bracket and line. Use your imagination.

Larger bore's do make for a stiffer pedal when it comes to hydraulics. Coming from the 240sx world... a lot of people upgrade their brakes, and a common part swap is from the stock 7/8's inch brake master cylinder to the 15/16's, 1", or 17/16" 300zx versions. With each step up in size, the pedal gets more and more firm without increased assistance from the brake booster.

I don't know what MC TICK uses or if it is made by them.

McLeod uses the Wilwood "compact" MC and they make whatever bracket for the various vehicles they provide a MC for. They also put on the swivel eye threaded rod on the MC so it can be adjusted, and provide a "unrestricted" braided steel line with fittings to connect to slave.

could you or someone who has some fab/machineing skills do this, yes.....but time =$

I do know McLeod used to use Tilton but stoped due to issues with their product (cups would tear on un-machined holes inside MC)

Tilton has been around for years and I suspect they make OK stuff. Wilwood also makes a great deal of hydraulic parts associated with brake/clutch systems

this is the 13/16" compact MC I have on my Mcleod MC

From my measurements the stock mc is 3/4". I made my own bracket and used a tilton 7/8". I belive the tick is also 7/8".

ur-n-8 what did you do to make a bracket? I am thinking of making my own and just trying to get a few pointers. Thanks for any input.

I did mine on a third gen and I did some modification to the firewall, it was a fair amount of work. The 7/8" Tilton mc works well though.

If you go to Speedway Motors web site, they offer everything to switch to a Wilwood or Tilton M/C for the clutch. You can buy the stuff individually also.
