Default Mc Leod or Monster

Trying to decide between the McLeod RSX or Monster Level 2.
The car is a 99 SS with 450 rwhp (HCI). The car will see some occasional track time. I may also spray the car, but will not be much more than a 75 shot. I spoke to the guys with Monster and they recommended the Level 3 with spray.

I have been doing some research and the Monster gets good reviews. I was wondering what experiences everyone had with these clutches at this power level

I'm a newbie here and am very open to any recommendations.

Thanks.

Not sure about the McLeod brand but Monster Clutches are 100% USA made and probably cheaper too. they also get excellent reviews from people who have them. I spent a brief amount of time on the McLeod website before commenting on this post and I could see no where that they are USA made. If they are not bragging it on their website then they are hiding it. I ordered a stage 2 Monster setup for my C5 Vette which is rated for 550 RWHP. It should be here this Saturday. My package consists of A billet flywheel, pressure plate, friction disk, new pilot bearing, and new throwout bearing. I got mine for $630 shipped through Tick Performance which is a very good price for a Vette clutch. They are currently running a $100 off sale. Don't know when it ends. It is a drop ship arrangement so it may take a few days longer to recieve your order. I would contact McLeod through their website and find out where it's made and if it's US made, then cool....If they can't give you a clear answer on that, then I would go with Monster. The McLeod product looks a lot more expensive anyway.

Thanks Reddvette. Appreciate all of the info! The Monster sounds good. Good luck and your car sounds stout.

Correction.....My C5 does not have 550 RWHP. The Monster stage 2 is rated @550 RWHP. Don't know what my C5 has at the rear. Never dyno'ed it. I have basic mods. ARH long tube headers w/X-pipe and cats. Corsa X-Treme axle back, Vararam VR-B2 intake, a "canned" Diablo tune, and an MGW short shifter. Never 1/4 miled it yet but i DID do a flat out at 167mph. Thinking about doing a cam in the future but one thing at a time right?

I have a monster stage 3 in my trans am and love it. If you were to go with a monster take their suggestion and go with the 3 it will give you room to grow hp wise. It's not a hard clutch to drive at all I daily my car. It just chatters if you don't beat on it every once in awhile. Install was easy packaging was great. Diamond clutches are also a great way to go from Jason at TDP.

i love my monster, its a level 3. you definitely have to beat on it a lot if you are daily driving the car. mine doesn't like "city driving" with lots of stop lights and bumper to bumper traffic. when its time to get nasty, i never have to worry about the clutch. if i had to do it all over again, i would probably go with the 2 though.

I too have a stage 3 monster with lightweight flywheel. Love it. A bit chattery in the begining but feels excellent. Monster says that the clutch is designed to be abused. Only downfall is it WILL find a weak spot in your drivetrain and it will break. Doing a t56 rebuild now with master kit from tick. Thanks monster

IMO the two clutches of interest don't even compare! We're talking apples and oranges here!! Mcleod is made in the USA if thats such a concern. The RST is rated to 800hp and drive identical to stock with a pedal that is arguably lighter than stock with silky smooth engagement. Its bigger brother the RXT can handle 1000hp and drives slightly more agressive than the RST but still has much better street manners than just about any aftermarket single disc clutch. Check out the "6 speed fastest list" and see which company the top cars used the most. The RST can be had for around $700 brand new.

Monster level 3 here with around 440rwh/400rwtq. I leave the line on the lmtr @ 7K & shift at 6700rpm.
Went thru 3 RAM HD's [4k each & died]before this Monster,it has 6k miles on it now with about 10 track passes.I am in the process of replacing my clutch master after last trip to track when one of the plastic ears on the stock GM unit broke on the 2-3 shift & blew ALL the seals in my hydraulic system for the clutch.
Tick master is ordered but on a 2week back order rt now.The Monster 3 does have a lil stiffer than stock pedal but it has yet to slip or complain ANY & I beat on my car VERY HARD .

Yeah, the flywheel, slave, and pilot bearing are extra. Still a great price though. I love the RST, but my budget keeps telling me I need to just get a Monster Stage II....

OP if you're still in Lubbock like your profile says, come give my Mcleod RST a feel in my H/C/I C5.

I've had both the Monster stage 3 and McLeod RXT now.. McLeod is 1000x better, but Monster is still good and well above the rest too.

Just did the rst in my z06. Just over 500rwhp na. Its roughly 10% lighter pedal than stock and grabs later as well. Super smooth and insane hold on the street in the few times ive really got on the gas. Gotta fix a few issues then ill have track times.
