Default Should I try Synchromesh

When I did my clutch (Monster stage 2) over the winter I filled the tranny with a basic dex III from Napa. The tranny does not shift to smooth at all, and when I semi get on the gas and shift, it will sometimes grind. The car has a Tick MC in it, along with a speed bleeder.... I am wondering if its worth the $45 to try the GM Synchromesh, or is there a cheaper better alternative?

It won't hurt anything, so if you don't like it, you can just drain it and try something else.

Had nothing but grinding issues. Changed the fluid to Penzoil Syncromesh and it shifts perfect and smooth now.

Another happy synchromesh user here. I was running the mobil 1 stuff and it seems to slide into gear just a bit easier now, also less grinding.

Changed my trans mount and trans fluid to synchromesh and my car shifts like butter now. It was worth the money imo.

The only difference I noticed with straight syncromesh was that the cold start notchyness was gone.

i' use gm syncromesh on a new build. don't know if i can say their name on here because they aren't a sponsor, but they build almost if not all the prostock trannys. had parts shot peened, cryo'ed and viperized with carbon fiber throughout and that was what was suggested to use and i have no problems. got 1k on trans now and changing it tomorow again to syncromesh. good stuff , not recomended for the paper rings, but good for carbon fiber

I use only Pennzoil Synchromesh in my car, and in a recent GTO clutch install I did with a buddy. The fluid has always been nice and smooth for me.

I'll be rebuilding my t-56 in the next few months with the gearbox stage 2 parts. The tranny has about 30k miles on it and I don't think it has even been apart. It is very notchy. I look forward to trying some new syncromesh fluids to see what works later on. I would love to have a smooth shifting tranny.

Well I manned aup and did it, put synchromesh in it. The car shifts 1000 times better, well worth the upgrade!

That's good it shifts better. Is your trans stock or rebuild?

Update.

The trans had been apart. By someone that did NOT know what they were doing. Silicone everywhere inside. I had to replace:
Mainshaft
5/6 driven
5th (inc syncro assy)
6th (inc syncro assy)
Rev (inc syncro assy)
keys
pads
3/4 fork
a $50 washer that should never have to be replaced

Think that's about it.

I tried four fluids after the rebuild. All carbon blockers.

Stock III ATF: VERY notchy. Hard to get into first.
Dex VI ATF: A little less notchy but not where I wanted.
Syncomesh: Better still but it still didn't feel like a trans should. Notchy/no grinding.
Redline ATF: Best I have found so far. It's not 100% smooth but a drastic improvement over the other three.

So should you put syncromesh even if it feels ok?
