Default transmission grinding in 3rd n 4th gear.

I bough a 2000 ws6 5.7 . 6 speed manual transmission . With 100,000 miles at an auction as is. When i took it home i test drive it and i was jerking at 1st gear alot. Then it stop jerking at 2nd .now on 3rd gear n 4 th gear it grind it and on 5th n 6 th were fine . I though it was just a bad clutch or syncro .so first i drain the transmission oil n it look all metallic silver purple. As it keep draining someting started to rattle i got some pliers it it was a 1 inch aluminum claw . Some type of teeth. I dont knw wat it is . Then i kept pulling pcs of hard chew dry plastic. My question is is it worth paying 1000$ to 1500$ to rebuild ot or go to salvage yard n get a used one for 1600$.or is something that i could fix .i will post some pics of the aluminum pc. That came out. As soon as i figure how to put pics ;-)

The aluminum is part of the 3-4 shift fork more than likely. I would expect it to require some parts in addition to a basic rebuild.

rebuild it.... finding one in a salvage yard is hard enough and even when you do you still may end up needing a rebuild.

The plastic is your shift fork pads. I'd rebuild it if I were you.

Don't spend that money on a salvage piece you'll just have to rebuild as well. I believe Tick sells rebuilt units for about 1400 if you send in your core. Free shipping too.

Thus isn't the right unit, but you get the idea

I would never tell someone to JUST rebuild a transmission...its a lot easier said than done and he might end up with more problems and spending more money. I would never rebuild a transmission in any situation with these cars. Its too damn cheap to just buy another one. If we were talkin about a $5000 transmission thatd be a different story. Not to mention taking out a transmission isnt exactly fun. I would buy a new one...can get one with about that much miles for around $400 at a salvage yard. I believe places have warranties too so if you get a bad one you wont be wasting your money.

where can you buy t56's at a salvage yard for 400 lol. I'd start buying them and reselling them then if I could. An auto is a different story but a t56 is very expensive not to mention they cant even be bought new as they have been replaced with the t56 magnum. I'd rather pull the tranny out tear it down, replace whats needed and in the end have a new tranny that I'm confident wont have issues like a yard find may

I may have been thinking of the auto then, or a 5 speed.

Yea, one bolt and a oil filter is exactly the same as dropping a Trans.... If you could go from parked in the driveway to Trans completely removed in 45 min, you should be a NHRA mechanic.

Video proof or I'm calling BS

ya t56's are worth their weight in gold lol. ve if you buy from a yard it still may need a rebuild... if you are good with tool and have access to a pres I'd tear yours down yourself and see whats up... if not get in contact with tick or tdp and have them rebuild your unit

I apologize I was thinking of a T5 transmission not a T56. I was wrong.

I can have it out in 45 min. But I have done it many many times, also I'm a technician by trade.
