Default T56 & LS1 - which pilot bearing
I'm getting confused - which pilot bearing do i need?

I keep seeing two different kinds, one that's like a sealed bearing & the other that's like a needle roller bearing.

Any ideas please?

The corvette LS7 and CTS use a larger OD bearing that seats in the outer flange of the crank, 12557583
The 98-02 F body and GTO uses the smaller OD bearing that rides in the inner flange, 14061685

NAPA carries the smaller bearing as B657....what you want with a LS1/T56 combo.

As long as you're using an f body T56, LS1 flywheel and clutch, the smaller one will work.

What bearing do I need with a 5.3 with ls7 clutch and flywheel with a 2000 Camaro? We have already broke the bellhousing twice and can't get it on. We have the pilot bearing still in from the t5 I was using before.

If you had a T5 behind a 5.3, that had the LS7 bearing that sits in the outer crank flange. If you're switching to an f body T56, you'll need the 98-02 f body bearing that seats in the inner crank flange.

Isnt there bell housing spacers avaliable so that you can use the LS7 type bearing in a f-body? what would be the benifit of one over the other? I am trying to make the decission on which one i want to use right now

Why on earth would you want to run a spacer just to use a different (incorrect) bearing? Just run the small LS1 bearing and be done with it.

The spacers are generally used to run an LS T56 on a earlier gen BBC/SBC. A pilot bearing is about $12, spacer over $100. Pretty easy choice.
