Default Monster 3 clutch pics

Clutch has maybe 6k miles on it, that is a high statement. Car is a weekend toy. Went to Gulfport Ms to run a grudge race. After making a few passes all was well, till hit third and just free spun. this is what it looks like.

Thought I would share, not blaming anyone or bashing anyone either.

Do you think the light weight flywheel was the culprit?

Honeslty dont know, it looks like the puck material came apart. The bell housing was covered in clutch material.

Yeah, I saw that. I'm trying to learn as much as I can from this forum. Were you hot lapping? I would think that maybe the lighter steel got too hot, thus causing the premature wear on the pucks.

Maybe SNL will chime in once they see this thread? I plan on doing 5000+rpm clutch dumps so I opted for a twin disc. I hope it holds up.

I'be no doubt they will go above and beyond to help figure out what happened.

On an aside, that flywheel is quite spectacular. Seriously, would you be interested in getting rid of it?

Looks like you over heated it to me. No pun intended, but these are NOT drag racing clutches. Beat the snot out of them, and they are going to overheat and fail. My guess is too many high RPM clutch drops.

What would you want with it?

Yes it was broken in correctly, 500 miles of stop and go s
Not all in the same day, no beating on it.

Snl always had good customer service, the clutch has to be out of the year warranty, due to the car is never driven only on nice weekends

Measure the clutch puck thickness?

My guess it was wore pretty thin and then the pressure plate couldn't clamp it and it slipped.

Happened to mine - after about 4k miles and 500+ track passes. It just wouldn't grab on a launch.

I didn't let mine get at hot as yours

Put a 11" race disc or a level 5 in it and let it rip

Ive had a level 5 for awhile. Traded up to it after the stage 3. 0 problems with the clutch, and doesnt chatter and didnt need a long break in period.

5 is my car too - doesn't grab nearly as hard as the 11" does - but I like it.

OP,

Shoot me an email at Steve@monsterclutches.com and Ill go over all of this with you. From the looks of it, it looks like it started slipping and once it starts it will self destruct. That needs to be caught immediately. This is what happens if it is not caught

Yes, very much :-)
It would go nicely with my lamps made from twisted & warped axles that are using (blued, cracked, and heat checked all to heck) dead rotors

Weird that the puck material just started to break down like it did.
I have seen a few toasted puck clutches wear out rivets but never seen the material come off in chunks.

It happens when the material gets VERY hot.
