LS3/T56 possible combination?
I have a 97 Trans Am WS6. I have access to a LS3 out of an 2010 Camaro SS. I have access to computer and tranny. But my question is will a T56 bolt up to a LS3? Is their a bell housing plate available for that swap? Is there anything else that I will need for the swap? I am a newbie to the LS fam so guide me in da right direction. . . . . .

You have to change the midplate, bellhousing and input shaft to those from an LS1. I believe the t56 crossmember is also different for the LS motors from that of the LT1. You would also have to use a different clutch and master/slave cylinder for clutch actuation. Everything else should work ok. If you are going ls3 i wouldn't use the ls3 computer, instead find an LS1 computer/wiring harness and use the lingenfelter adapter otherwise none of the gauages will work in your car.

Anything is possible. We just put a Vette T56 behind a Small Chevy with a flywheel out of a 97 2500, clutch pressure plate out of 02 Z06, and a NP208 transfer case.
Money will buy you whatever you want but why complicate things? Set the trans up by changing the above parts to LS1 style and make your life much easier..

It would be a whole lot easier to just get a T56 out of an LS1 Fbody and that will bolt right up with no modifications. Of course you would still have to run an LS style clutch and hydraulic system as previously stated. I also agree with running an LS1 computer and harness with the lingenfelter knock and cam sensor adapters. Sell everything from your LT1 setup that you won't be able to use with the swap to recover some funds for the swap.

I'm running an LS3 with a LS1 t-56. Aside from the gen3->gen4 minor modifications, it was fairly pain free. You can check on threads of LS3/2 being dropped into LS1 cars for some insights.
