Default T56 $$

Why is the T56 so damn expensive?
the least exspensive one that i have seen was about 1100. where do you guys look for them besides craigslist, ebay, and the local pick your part? how much are they running you guys?

yep. 1000 for a good core is cheap at this time.

I bought a brand new(had 2 miles on it, still full of assembly lube) ssr t56 several years ago and paid 1,000 shipped to my door! Those days are long gone.

thanks for the input, dudes. I wasn't sure what a decent price for them was. i've seen a few threads on the T5, but are they really a viable option for 400+hp/tq?

The demand is high, price reflects and they work well. T5's will not be a "viable" option, A stock 305TPI in the 80's with 210 crank HP would shatter them.

I paid $800 for a very nice one 6-7 years ago...they have gone up considerably due to popularity of old school engine swaps. I wouldn't even waste my time with an OEM T56...for the money just buy a Magnum.

I was ecstatic to pay 1,100 for a low mileage stock T56 this past spring. Sold my old core with 2-3, 3-4 syncros out of it and bell housing for almost that much this summer. They are getting more difficult to find.

I've been looking for one in good shape for about 2 months now. I made the mistake of buying one that came up on car-part for $1000 in Alabama and they said it was out of a 98 firebird and when I received it it had a clutch fork sticking out of the side.... Needless to say it was an lt1 t56 so I shipped it back and they are throwing a fit about refunding my shipping even though it's there mistake. Tag # says it was out of a 94-95 firebird/camaro

Found a core `98 F body T56 for $400, it has a broken 3-4 aluminum shift fork and a small access plate on top missing and that is all. Changing the fork to steel, replacing the blocking rings to carbon fiber and fork pads to bronze for $550.

random deals are out there as always.

the cheapest way to get a t56 is to buy a ls/t56 swapped fox body mustang and strip it. lol
