So I was about to leave and noticed that the clutch peal was grabbing real low. To the point that it engaged as soon as I lifted an inch. Read around a little and filled it with dot 3 fluid as specified now it will start but will not go into gear the clutch feels real soft not hard like before. Any ideas?? It will start with clutch in but won't go into gear.

So I figured out the problem.. I was in desperate need of dot 3 in the clutch reservoir. after pumping it like crazy it came back to working order.. question why does the clutch reservoir take brake fluid?

My problem with the clutch started similar to yours. By the time I got it home, saw I was low on fluid and it was dark and had stuff in it. After replacing the dirty fluid out, I couldn't get any gears at all. Did the bleed thing, did the new Master Cylinder, did the new slave, did the new Clutch, did the bleed bleed bleed and now I found that my brand new OEM Master C leaks and my car is still on blocks and I haven't put 1 mile on it. But it's been fun working on the car.
Brake fluid is just what you have to use, like using Automatic fluid in a manual.

Brake fluid is Hydraulic fluid, and as for your dead clutch issue sounds like you were just simply low on fluid. It happens.

I wonder where all the fluid went? I'd keep an eye on it for the next week or two and see if the fluid level starts to drop. If it does you have a leak somewhere that needs to be addressed.

slave cylinder leaking maybe? sucks because you need to pull the transmission to look. that would be my guess for the leak. follow the lines, clean them well, then check after you drive it for awhile, maybe able to find the leak then.

Yea I had called a local mechanic and the dude is like sound like we need to replace your master and slave cylinder gotta pull the tranny because you lost your throw out bearing! its gonna cost you $700-$1200 im like WTF.. damn dealers always trying to make money off you..

If you have tools and a place to work on it pulling the tranny aint bad, and besides your 700-1200 dollar bill turns into a $100 or so bill, depending on what the price of parts and replacement fluid is where your located.

It takes a good 8hrs if you are a no talent *** clown like myself... Saves a lot of money though.


When my slave went it leaked fluid out of the transmission bell housing. You can look there or put cardboard under the car to help find a leak.

The hydraulic system is supposed to be a sealed system, so you shouldn't be loosing fluid in the reservoir and it shouldn't even drop if you are using a factory self adjusting pressure plate which I assume is the case and it isn't leaking from any of the line connections...let us know what you find out.

dammit its official I got a clutch leak somewhere.. this morning the clutch was getting soft again and acting weird just now checked the clutch reservoir and it was empty I don't see any leak anywhere gonna get a piece of cardboard and see where it is coming from.. where do the leaks usually happen?

Leak points..
Under the trans (where the bell housing meets the engine)
Inside the car (the master cylinder, behind the clutch pedal check the area)
Under the hood (reservoir down to the master cylinder which sits under the brake booster)

Ultimately you should see the fluid on the ground unless it's leaking inside the car.

what if I don't see a leak anywhere lol could it be that it was empty completely and when i filled it up it sucked it in because it needed more?
