Default what transmission do i need?

I have a 99-00 lq4 with the long crank. In it and I am wanting to run a t56. I read a ls1 t56 the input shaft istoo long and won't bolt up . So my question is, since a lt1 t56 input shaft is shorter, can I use one of those if I switch the bell housing? Thanks in advance

I had a similar problem with the input shaft bottoming out in the back of the crankshaft in an alum 5.3.

O cut about 1/4" off the tip of the input shaft with a small air cut off wheel (thin) and then put the yoke in the trans and had a friend turn it. As he slowly and consistently turned it... I took a grinder at a 45* angle and put a bevel back on the tip like it had (so it slides into the pilot bearing easier). Voila. Fits now.

Before you cut anything... test fit it.

I don't have the trans yet I was hoping to find out before I wasted any money on a trans.
