Default 1st to reverse clunk?

Hey guys. I'm just wondering if anyone has or thinks this is an issue. When my car is in 1st and I shift to reverse, there is a clunk after letting off the clutch and then the car is in gear and goes. And then when I shift back to first and let off the clutch, there is a clunk, then the car is in gear and then it goes. If I'm super gental and slow on the clutch release, the clunk is more quiet and more of a smooth click. Any ideas? Maybe u-joint play? I don't know. My other cars have not done this but they were fwd.

it could be a u joint... butit sound more like a torque arm issue, if u look under you car, make sure the two big bolts that bolt the torque arm to your rear end are nice and tight. also the torque arm mount to the transmission, make sure that's good, and not brittle and falling apart. there isn't really anything in the transmission to cause a "clunk", if there was then it would affect the drive-ability.

check those things and let us know.
