Smile Can I use LS7 Slave on my 1998 T56?

Hey guys,

I just got a LS7 Clutch kit from Rockauto... it's cheapest by far...

$273 LUK 04216 (04-216) Clutch Kit
$59 LUK LFW191 Flywheel

They advertise that the kit included the pressure plate, disk, bearing, alignment tool. When I opened the box to my surprise there was a LS7 Slave!! Can I use the LS7 Slave and save money on buying a LS1 slave???

Please help!

Blake

I don't think it will work. You need to measure.

Most times the ls7 slave is use when swapping away from a dual mass flywheel to a standard.

Sucks that I literally just bought an ls7 slave. I would have paid you good money for it!

I got a Dorman from Summit today. I will hold on to all my parts until after the install. After that, it's yours!

How did you get the clutch kit for $273? It shows $309 today. The Flywheel is $60.79 so it close. Did you have a coupon?

Thanks,
Joe

Joe,
It's funny that you asked. After reading your post, I cannot even find a LS7 clutch kit!!! It's no longer listed. I can only find it by part number. When using the part numbers I get the

$362.79
LUK 04216 (04-216) Clutch Kit
$59.99 LUK LFW191 Flywheel

It's even higher than when you posted! My guess is that my perchase caused some sort of a problem and it has sense been fixed. I thought it was funny they would sale the LS7 clutch for the same price or cheaper than the LS6 kit! I have been going to the RockAuto website every the last 6 weeks and the price has not changed until now.

Funny... they also only have 4 kits left in stock and they had over 10 when I got mine just last week.

Here is my invoice, there was no sale or cupon

This is what came in the mail

I was surprised to see a new pilot bearing, alignment tool, slave, pressure plate and disk for the price!!! The guide pins were already pressed into the flywheel too! Great deal!

The ls7 slave doesn't compress all the way like an fbody slave. I have already tried it and had to repull my trans.

Was it the correct small pilot bearing included or incorrect large one for vehicles that come stock with the LS7 clutch?

It came with LS7 "sealed" type pilot bearing (the large one)
I went out and got my own LS1 "needle" bearing

If you factor in that I sold the Slave and Pilot for $140 and only paid $60 for the flywheel... That makes this cheaper than the LS1 and LS6 kits that Rockauto has for sale.

I would rather have ACT or Monster, but for the price... Rockauto has the best price for LS7, LS6 and LS1 LUK clutch kits. I called and confirmed, this is the norm price.

Good deal.

For an OEM replacement it's fine, minimal abuse is about it in the long run.

Let us know if you need anything, even though it's not a Monster we'll help all we can.

I have a 1998 Firebird Formula. Right now it only has a catback and intake. It will not get a lot more for now. It is and will not ever be a little more than a daily driver for me. It will never see the strip or track in any form. My biggest thing is I just started a new business and my income because of the investment my bank account is not quite where I would like. I however do also have a 240 with a ls1 in it which will be getting a twin disk. Truthfully I just need a ls2 flywheel at the moment to get the car on the road. I have a ls7 clutch and pressure plate and just rebuilt my transmission.

Sorry to thread jack.
