Default T56 Output shaft question

Here is a video of my car running in neutral with the driveshaft removed. Is this amount of wobble normal?

There is no specification for run-out on a disassembled unit like that.

If you're troubleshooting something, get to the point.

I'm not sure what you're saying. I twisted my slip yoke and broke the front u-joint of my driveshaft. I am checking to see if any damage was done to my transmission. A stock slip yoke slid into the transmission all the way so I assume the splines on the output shaft are in good shape. Now I am trying to see if the output shaft is bent or anything like that so I took this video. Is the amount of wobble normal?

seems like you should put a yoke on it and spin it by hand...see if it has loose/tight spots.

if it doesn't then drive it and feel for any weird vibes.

I destroyed a forged yoke on mine too. After replacing the trans yoke and rear seal on the tail housing I noticed a vibration when driving. Turned out that the mainshaft was cracked in 3 places just forward of the where the yoke splines ended. I would pull the tail housing and inspect the mainshaft for cracks between the reluctor and the splines for the yoke.

I put a yoke in it tonight and it has no play up and down or left and right. I tried spinning it by hand like recommended but I couldn't draw a conclusion. How easy should it be to tell if it has loose/tight spots? It required a little effort to start spinning no matter what position it was in. I could spin it pretty easily with one hand.

you aren't looking to spin it with any velocity.

ofcourse your break away torque will be higher than to keep it moving...Just get on there and spin it nice and slow and smooth and try to feel for tight spots.

Honestly, drive the car. If it doesn't vibrate you are most probably good.

Unfortunately I have to wait 3 weeks for a new driveshaft before I can drive it. Spinning it slow, the top felt a little tighter than the bottom, but if I spin it with a little more effort it isn't noticeable

I think you are fine.

How hard do you run the car? Is the trans stock? Maybe its time for a cheap rebuild before you break hardparts and spend lots of money?

Something to think about. All depends how nervous you are and how hard you work the car.

The correct way to do this is to teardown the box and place the mainshaft on a point to point fixture and roll it. Measure the runnout at several places along the shaft. Any other check discussed here is ineffective....except for the sight of fractures.
