Default Shimming T56 Release Bearing....Required?

I am preparing to install a T56 Magnum behind an LS3. I thought I was clear on shimming the release bearing until I saw the following comment in this article. I thought all release bearings were "bolt in" but still required shimming nonetheless? What am I missing here? (Scroll down to item #6 in the article) http://www.customclassictrucks.com/t..._transmission/

Depends if it is needed. Here is the info on how to measure.

Yeah that's what I had read before. But the article leads you to believe if you use the particular bearing mentioned in the article, it is bolt and go, implying no measurement is needed:

"A simple, bolt-in hydraulic throwout bearing is a nice change of pace from the adjustable units I’ve installed in the past, as this unit rids the installer of second guessing any measurements and shim installation."

I located the Chevrolet Performance instructions and apparently no shimming is required if using all GM parts. Only if aftermarket TOB, PP, etc are used is shimming needed.

You can't assume anything is a direct bolt-in. You need to measure both distances to make sure you have an air gap between the throwout bearing and clutch fingers. It's so simple to do, it doesn't make sense to not do it.

I'm guessing pressure plate. I have never had to shim a T56 Magnum with LS engine running a stock style slave.... ever.

I used a LS7 clutch/flywheel combo on a L92 with the "stock" LS1 slave and works great. No shimming required. But as sais above it doesn't hurt to check the clearance.
