Default What happened to my T56?! **CARNAGE PICS inside**

My car makes 660rwhp 750rwtq and went 10.9 @ 142mph on a 2.1 60ft. (3050lbs)

I baby the car through the shifts and idle off the line...

I did some quick pulls and my transmission started to whine in every gear except 4th... I did a few more pulls and the whining got very very loud and I wen't home and took the transmission out...

this is what we found:

What happened?!
Obviously, the gear got VERY hot and blue'd...

I had oil starvation from acceleration in mind but the front bearing looks fine, and most of the gear looks OK...

The car was FULL of Dexron 3 (Valvoline NON-syn)... Poured until it comes out of the fill plug and then capped it. (almost 4 quarts)

I need some opinions...
thanks!

Edit: I'm no professional but I severely doubt the car is making enough power to starve that front gear set of oil...
My buddies MKIII Supra which makes almost 900rwhp is on a stock t56 (His car is much faster than mine) and he has no such issues.

Is my incident a freak incident? Is it from lash? Starvation?

You're at a power level where a pump is needed.

OEM style off the countershaft can be done, or external electric.

Doing the rebuild yourself?

how would a pump work in a t56 and where would you be pumping oil to?

i would measure everything for runout and inspect the transmission casing for cracks or places where it would allow the shafts to move causing the gears to bind into one another.

Pump picks up near the tailshaft, and sprays at the front, as close to 4th as possible.

Is the transmission mounted at a bad angle maybe drawing oil away as well ?

Do you know the history of the trans ?

Definitely a well put together video explaining it.

Probably wouldnt be that hard to install a pump/jet without even removing the box.

i agree on needing a pump and it being a product of oil starvation either from acceleration or driveline angle

The other cheap option a lot do to try and combat it...is simply overfill the box a little.

Been there done that at 700rwhp/763rwtq. You're going to need a new cluster gear and input and it will just keep happening until you put a pump up front. DO NOT put a new input shaft in without replacing the cluster gear or itll whine like you've never heard. Ask me how I know......

You can put a pump setup together for around $300. Use a fitting off the drain plug and drill a hole in the side of the case by the input. My plan was to use a wide open throttle switch to activate the pump.

Thanks a ton for the advice guys.

It'sslow98 .... awesome advice from real world experience.

I am having trouble locating a pump (gear style)
And trouble with figuring out how I can run a nozzle in the right spot and what fittings to buy.
I want to do AN everything. Not a fan of rubber hose.

You could simply drill/tap and screw a -4 or -6 1/8 NPT fitting into the side of the casing.

Whilst the tube to direct flow into the gears would be better...as long as it was pointing the right way, dont think it would be essential. Could easily weld a piece onto the fitting in the side of the case.

VDO make a nice compact electric oil pump, apparently used on some BMW's

Or I wonder would some of the low pressure diesel lift pumps fitted to a lot of modern cars these days work ok ?

OEM part number 16117165590 Seems to bring up a long thin diesel pump. If it can pump diesel...which can get hot too, oil should be fine ?

And it'd be rated at continuous duty
