Default Internal Components Campability

I currently have an ls1 that is need of quite a bit of money in new parts. I found a few t-56s on craigslist for a decent price. I found two for pretty cheap that were from an LT1 car, or a c5 corvette.

I know the bell housings are different from the LT1 to the LS1 and so is the input shaft. If I were to think about the corvette trans, what is different between them? I know the cases are different, but what internals would be compatible?

Corvettes have different syncros, what are you trying to replace?

Well, I need a basic rebuild, including blockers, keys, and springs.
Mainshaft
Bearings
5/6 Synchro
probably 5/6 gear cluster
5/6 driven gear

plus whatever else I find wrong with it.

much easier to get an ls1 t56 fro fbody or a gto. Lt1 needs a midplate, bell housing and input shaft. About 400-500 in parts the corvette would need even more as its made to munt on the irs in the rear

GTO T56s are M12s. he has a M6 T56 so very few of the internals will interchange. The GTO M12 is a double/triple cone synchro transmission like the Corvette and CTS-V. He is going to have to get 1 from a LS Camaro or Firebird.

true I was assuming however that if he found a gto mn12 unit he would take advtange of the better synchros and just swap over his ls1 parts lol like the bell and shift lever

I prefer to start with a double/triple cone trans, put a SSR main shaft in it, machine the tail shaft housing, throw a TH400 yoke on it and call it a beast lol.

I was mainly looking to see if the main shafts were equivalent along with the 5/6 gear assemblies.

I think I'm just going to have to fork up the money and see if I can find a rebuilt one locally or order one in .

call up tick or tdp on here and they can get you squared away. sending in your core for a rebuild will most likely be a more cost effective option than buying one outright even if yours is truly screwed its still a core to go from
