Default paper or carbon fiber

i just took apart my 60,000 mi trans out of my 02 ws6 to just do upgrades, billet keys, bronze pads, steel 3-4 fork,my driven 5-6 gear came off with out a puller, so new main and gear, how do i tell if my blockers are paper or carbon fiber

IIRC Tremac stopped using paper blocker rings back in 97 or 98

my 94-97 T56 I bought new in 2005 had carbon as it was actually made in 2004

I'm looking for the article, but I believe all LS1 cars had paper lined blockers. They are a wear part anyways though so you may as well just replace them while you're in there. I'll update this post if I find the info, until then just take it as hearsay I guess.

From my understanding and looking at them side to side, the carbon blockers are darker in color

Carbon is black.

Fiber ones are brownish and carry unique grooving different than the carbon.

Yours should have carbon.

Now I am REALLY confused!

I always thought that I had the 'cellulose composite' blocker rings in my T56.
Being that my car was screwed together in December of '99, maybe I do??

I guess I will never know for sure until I go to rebuild this one, unless I core/exchange it on a new or rebuilt aftermarket unit.

Your unit should have carbon fiber lined rings.
