Default Anyone here hate the MGW?

I bought my car with this shifter in it. Since the day i bought the car I thought the shifter was garbage, but didn't know what it was until today when doing some wiring. I've not really had issues shifting it, but the sticks too far to the right, first gear feels like it's where third should be. Also I find that first and second gear are hard to get into when going easy, like I really have to pull the stick to the left, not an issue when racing, but when putting around town it's annoying. Really hoping to find someone with a pro5.0 that wants to trade.

Am I crazy or are there others that don't love this shifter?

its the best shifter out there. IT needs to break in some . i dont know how many miles are on your car.

Two things you could do , drain and refill your trans with new fluid , and bleed your clutch and report back .

Really needs to be broken in. Only complaint about the shifter I have sometimes it's hard to get it to go into reverse.

Once it breaks in it great. I had issues myself. It was the factory master cylinder. Now that I have a Tick master it amazing. I haven't missed 3rd gear at the track yet.

I agree with these guys...it takes a bit to break in and then it seems to get better. It is a bit to stiff overall but great for slamming gears and not missing

I love my MGW shifter. Never driven a B&M or Pro 5.0, but can't see how they would be any better. It sounds like you need to put some miles on the car and get the shifter broken in, like others have eluded to. After that, report back and tell us if your mind has changed.

Different car but my Dad has the MGW in his C5Z, neither one of us care for it, too stiff. Have had it for a couple of years and a few thousand miles and it's just too hard to get into 5th, 6th, and reverse. Never missed a shift with it though. For slamming gears and racing it is fantastic, for driving around town it's a PITA.

I've never missed a gear with not either, and it was installed at 10-15k miles ago along with a new ls6 clutch. My biggest complaint is it's a pain to get into reverse and the gear pattern is too far to the right, and with as hard as you have to pull it to the driverside to get into first, I'm constantly finding myself trying to take off from stop lights in third if I'm not paying attention. Im sure with as popular as these are I'll have no problem getting rid of it. I guess I'm weird.

I think people need to understand that any shifter that's built so that you don't miss gears is going to be a little stiffer than the OEM shifter. One needs to make that decision before they buy an aftermarket shifter. Do you want a shifter that's built so that you don't miss shifts racing, or do you want a shifter that grandma can use when she uses your car to head down to the local VFW hall for bingo.

My pro 5.0 was notchy and never felt good like the MGW, the billet plus was better than the 5.0 but still not as good as the MGW. I had to DD my car for about 6 months for the shifter to loosen up nicely.

I love the Hurst Billet/Plus chrome stick (non-factory **** version). Aside from some recent nonsense with the shifter boot crumbling on me (didn't know til I went to do a trans rebuild), it's been flawless for years.

Thoughts on my MGW so far:

<500 miles: This thing is notchy and sucks
500-1000 miles: It's ok, but maybe I made the wrong choice
somewhere at ~1000 miles: the clouds parted, angels descended and it feels reallllly good

^ This.

You all need to hit the gym if you're saying it's hard getting into 5th and 6th. I'm a shrimpy 6' 155lb and I have no trouble getting into the higher gears + reverse.

Its not that its really difficult, its just firmer than I feel it should be, my old pro5.0 felt notchy for sure, but no different going into any gear vs the other. I had a LSS on it that was bent towards the driver which I really liked. Are there any other options for sticks than the straight one that comes with the shifter?

I know the shorter the stick is the harder it will be to manuver lol.

Maybe eat some spinach before you take it out?

Honestly I think this is due to use, as the shifter "breaks-in" we use gears 1-4 a lot, 5,6 and reverse less so it seems like they take a little longer to break in.
