New Hinson Motorsports F-Body Short Throw Shifter - Now Available

Current MGW owner here - and I frankly cannot imagine loving a shifter more than the one I have.
That being said I may just order one for ***** and giggles as I could do a direct comparison/review of the two (let's face it, MGW is the top dog in the fbody manual transmission shifter space IMHO)

I'd be interested to see inside one...still not getting what you mean by preloading, or what actively encourages a 2-3 shift....whilst not really hurting a 2-1 shift ?
Although maybe a small market, a shifter with a 1st gear lockout might be nice that could be activated when drag racing. Just a simple spring loaded pin or something that could be held out normally, but then engaged against 1st which then locks it out as soon as you leave 1st gear, but can be manually locked out for normal driving.
I can see how something would be very easily done in place of the 1-4 skip shift inside the top plate on the box...although obviously that means removing the box to fit.

I watched the videos ..... Love the simplicity of what looks like a tight light switch. Almost looks like a serries of vertical throws.
Can anyone elaborate on a 3rd to 2nd down shift ?
My B&M has been a good soldier but it's tired. I've been waiting for an option like this for a long time. OP is right, you do develop new habits & muscle memories as these old shifters & springs wear out. I developed a strange habit of dropping into neutral & rocking the shifter back & forth (left to right) in an effort to find a bench mark for were I am. This developed into a chronic habit even when just sitting at a light or drive through.
I'm looking forward yo dropping that little tick.
I'm also encouraged to see that companies like this are still making innovative products for our Fbodies ! Hats off for listening & reacting to the M16 thread issue.
I'm in for one.

I would like some more detail about how it works before I could even think about buying.
Of late I've been hitting 2-1 far more than I should be which is never good...and TBH I switched back to the stock shifter as of the 3 I tried it had the best/strongest centering action.
Pro5 was the worst, B&M not too bad, and factory stock much better ! It actually had 2 small springs to achieve the left to centre motion where all the rest had a single spring.
I'm almost even contemplating the sequential shifter as it'd work great with my faceplated box ! ( if they reduce the price LOL )
I dont want/need a short throw, I dont want very narrow gates. I just want something that's positive in where it needs to go. No doubt I'm part of the problem...which is odd, as until a year or so ago, I simply never missed gears. But it's happening now and it's breaking ****.

Strangely the only thing that changed in the past couple of years....is I modified the stick so it's in a far more comfortable position. Cant recall exact time sequence though.
Comfortable maybe isnt conducive to that 2-3 shift ! lol

Swapped vehicle compatibility??
How is this shifter with swapped vehicles? I spoke with a rep at MGW and he advised me to not use their shifter with any taller of a handle because it puts top much stress on a particular part of the dampener inside that can break. Does this shifter have the same issue? It'll be going into a S10 with about stock height handle.

Looks like a great upgrade. I noticed after doing my clutch and then engine swap im pretty shure mine is a stock shifter. Now I need a new clutch after it didnt hold the advertised tq ratings but thats another story. When I bought the car it said slp shifter what ever the hell that was with a short stick. I noticed you said standard 7/8 bolt spacing, not to pinch pennys do I have to buy the shifter with a stick or can I just use the one I have? If the spacing is right of course.

I had an MGW.... it caused me to shift so hard all the time. It was so pleasing to shift i spun the motor all the time and my lifters went out to lunch.
if this feels like an MGW, and you miss a shift, go to an automatic!

lol that'd be awesome, but sadly with how busy I am going to be in the next coming weeks it's a safe bet to say I won't be able to for quite some time.
