I tried searching with no luck. Does the 2000 Z28 manual transmission have the CAGS from the factory?

Elky,
Thanks for the reply. Perhaps mine has been modified by the previous owner, since I always row through the gears. Should I look for a device on the tranny to confirm?

With the CAGS in effect, you should get the yellow warning light on the instrument panel in first gear any time you are not accelerating the car "smartly" at operating temps. If you never see it the warning light or have never felt that shift lockout forcing you into 4th gear, it's probably already disabled. It can be disabled either via a tune change or with a 6" jumper cable on the outside of the trans.

I found it quite annoying when I first got my car and often found myself in 4th vs. 2nd. So I installed the jumper. But after a year or two I missed the easy 1-4th skip shift for those times I was just plodding along. So I removed the jumper.

There 2 common ways to disable skip shift. The first is a device plugged into the harness and the solenoid. The other is to disable it in the PCM through tuning software.

I've also heard of people breaking it.
