Default Damn, Think My Clutch Is Done

So I am tearing the 'vette down to put twins on it and refresh the engine while I am at it. When I pulled the clutch, my heart sank a little...Going to clean it up a little better and give it a good inspection, but I think it may be time to replace it. It holds strong and never slipped on me, but it might just be a matter of time...What do you think?

FW & PP don't look bad. Hard to tell by the pic of the disc. If the rivets are about at the surface of the pucs...than it is almost worn out.

Given it is a 6 puc disc clutch, doesn't look like it ate up the PP or FW bad. Hit those with some emery cloth

looks like a Monster clutch...ping SNL on this site

yea, it's a Monster Level 3. Judging by the wear on the pucs, the inner half of the puc friction material is catching more than the outer half.

Looking at a Monster LT1-SC since I am shooting for around 1,000ish rwhp with the TT build. Need one that will be friendly as a DD and won't melt down at the track and will actually take the abuse without wearing out right away.

I recommend RPS. You'll pay for it. But only once

if you are anywhere near that "RWHP" you need a multi disc clutch....maybe even a 3 disc.

The RPS is only $2500 the first time. Rebuilds are less than half that but the last a lot longer that other clutches that hold the same power. At least that's what I've gathered from others experience. I have and LT1-S and it's a great clutch just heavy even with the lighter flywheel. Just a note. You cannot use ARP flywheel bolts with the LT1 clutches. They are too tall.

Plus with the RPS, you don't have to get the carbon carbon version. Single sided carbon is a bit cheaper just not as nice.

The LT1-SC is a twin disc. And if I can't hit 1,000rwhp with twin Precision 6766 CEAs I will burn the car down bahaha.

you only have to buy it once. After that it's $400 to rebuild if you ever even need to. The friction material is carbon fiber

A SC is less than $1200 and is rebuildable as well, no need to spend the money when you don't have to.

Let us know the thickness of that disc and we'll go from there.

lol that is 12k in parts....not gonna happen for my daily. I could put a 5.3 with a built glide and aftermarket ECM and a good portion of the turbo kit in my Vega for that much.

The thickness is between 0.284 - 0.294 measuring from the outside of the friction surface on 1 side to the outside of the friction surface of the other.

We would agree. Definitely some uneven wear happening there.

Our DYAD dual disk sound like it would be what you're looking for. It drives just like a stock clutch around town and rated up to 1300 crank ft/lbs. You can scoop the entire kit with clutch, flywheel, hardware, and bearings for about $1700. If you happen to have any questions about it, feel free to shoot us a PM!
