Default T56 Tail Housing Help (Repair or Replace)

Long time no post... moving on to my dilemma:

My passenger side of the tail housing trans mount boss is cracked in a vertical fashion, just a bit inboard of the bolt hole. The driver side threaded hole is fine...

1) WithOUT pulling a transmission, how would one go about checking the countershaft shim necessary if you had both the old tail housing case as well as the new tail housing case side by side?

2) Can this cast aluminum be welded or soldered/brazed back solid?

3) Can the holes that F-bodies use for torque arm be used to mount a transmission?

4) Can just the driver side of the transmission mount be secured?

I'm *really* not wanting to pull the transmission as it's a 6 hour job each way. Removing the tail housing is far easier. Now built a new trans xbrace that allows me the use of a conventional rubber GM mount vs the hard durometer poly solid mount that the previous owner used.

Thank you for your help.

edit:

As an alternate, if I removed the existing tail housing and had it welded, would I need to re-shim?

Default

Pull it.
Get it welded.
Don't put your name on "unnecessary customization."
A standard GM mount already fits. The torque arm is what rips the rubber ones.
Always check end play / preload if you have it apart.
