Default 4L60e to t56 need advice

So I have a 4l60e that has been setting out of the car for some time, and I'm wanting to swap to a m6 but money is tight and I can't seem to locate all parts needed for a decent price.
So what would be my best option.

Should I just put the 4l60e in the car and hope for the best, get a rebuild kit, or is there a section I can post for maybe a trade?

I have a lq9 stock going in the car.

If any wants to trade parts this is a list of what I have

All a4 parts.
Pedals
Center console
A4 cross member
Computer
Ls1 wiring harness
New but installed tourqe converter "factory"
Lq9 wiring harness
Lq9 intake
Extra set of coils
Ls1 long block needs rebuild - parts I'll need to put on the lq9
Lq9 headers
Ls1 headers and ory with gutted cats
Lq9 any parts that won't work with swap

So found a guy offering 1800 for a t56 / clutch assembly/ Hurst shifter /throw out bearing / slave cylinder he say the trans has 160k on the clock but works fine.

Is this a good deal?

I just did a swap but my car had all the holes for the swap because the car was an M6 car with an automatic in it. without having to cut holes, it took me and a friend, both of us really good mechanics with a lift 8 hours with all the parts.

on the other hand. I got a stage 2 t56, tick master cylinder, speed bleeder, B&M shifter, slave, throw out bearing, bell housing, and cross member for 2000. I would offer a little less than the 1800 he wants.

I'd be leery of spending that kind of money plus all the work to install a 160k T56 in the car. Good chance that it'd be coming right back out again.

IMO, you'd be better off spending the money on a good converter and getting your A4 refreshed.

Judging by all the "what's wrong with my 4L60e" threads.....I wouldn't spend a nickel trying to refresh one.

OP

buying any used transmission has its risks. Some may be fine while others need $500-$1500, or more, in work so without knowing verified history or opening up the trans its a crap shoot

Finding a matching year car model type at junk yard and harvesting all the manual tranny related components would be the cheapest...although still not "cheap" but you won't know how good the tranny is until you drive it or tear it down for inspection.

you could get lucky and find a decent one with a clutch & flywheel that is still good

I bought everything new for about $5k and sold my A4, TC, x member and rear gears for around $2k. My A4 was working perfectly and had a shift kit

Yeah i think im going to just start gathering up all my uneeded parts and put them up for sale to try and get a good proper working t56 or mayne even a magnum. Just bites because im kinda in a time pinch.

you can check out any trans some. Check that there is no wobble in input shaft, tip is not scored, splines are not chipped or twisted. Put in each gear and rotate shaft to see if that gear operates and you don't feel/hear any odd sounds/grinding.

Basically do what you do when you buy any car or part used

Busted A4, tight budget, not much time...thats a tight corner to be in. Do what you need to and ideally you will find either a complete donor car or someone who has the parts.

The one that dropped to $1300 but now seems like someone else has "the other parts" may be a problem for everything. Maybe the guy will take $750 for the tranny and bellhousing alone. May be worth checking out

again, you need to check as best you can and go from there.

Yeah im not trying to rush into buying anything. But time is a factor, thank you for the advice on how to check the transmission.

Yeah he never replied after I asked how much his friend wanted for the other parts and he claims to have gotten it for 1800. So i feel something is strange there. So im probably going to pass on his parts unless like younsaid he drops the price significantly.

Do some reading on the manual trans forum. Start with the "what's wrong with my clutch?" threads and work your way up to the T56 internal issues.

In either case, it's a question of the quality of the parts and the quality of the build.

Default In need of parts for LQ9 swap

Does anyone know where I can obtain some LQ9 parts for a swap I'm looking into, preferably a LQ9 wiring harness, headers, and an intake. Also need a complete t56 trans if anyone could point me in the right direction of where to find these. Thanks.
