Anybody use this stuff? Redline MTL

http://www.redlineoil.com/products_g...57&subcatID=18

I saw it on one of the TV shows over the weekend and was curious about it.

Guy going by the name MolaKule over at BobIsTheOilGuy Forums is a blender and is offering what are most likely some of the finest lubes obtainable to us...in about 15,000 miles, I'm going to be changing the fills in my truck over to his stuff.

He's got what looks to be a good alternative to be why some have shy'd away from the Redline MTL (a little thick when first getting going in the cold mornings), namely his MTFGlide...or SynchroGlide for those wanting even more protection...however it is a thicker (but still ligther than Redline MTL) lube.

Might be worth dropping him a line to ask what he recommends, his website (which is simplistic, but does have the needed info I think) is: Specialty Formulations.

Whoops! Looks like linking to non-sponsors is a no-no...the website is just as it sounds, with no space in between Specialty and Formulations.

Sorry about that!

I ran Mobil 1 in my old t56 for five years and it went through many clutches but the trans always worked smooth for me. I never tried any of the others listed in the poll as I was happy so why would I just try another for the sake of it? After five years I figured I should drain it to be safe and it came out looking as clean and new as the day I put it in. I sold that set up and its still going strong in another dudes car.

i also would like to know if there is any hard evidence to support that.

if using honda ATF is really a good idea, my transmission has been fine since i put it in but who knows if its still causing damage???

anyone ACTUALLY know?? not just something they overheard?

i need to keep

TOS98SS- Unless your old fluid was just totally junk, the problems you are experiencing are not fluid related but mechnical - no matter which fluid you try, your problem will still be there.

Given that, some fluids may mask or delay the inevitable failure of whatever is going out and causing your problems...I'm all for running a better made fluid than dino Dex III, but in your case I say fix your mechanical problems, run dino Dex III for a decent amount of time to ensure your OK (and whoever does the work won't point to fluid for their screw up if you have a problem with the repair), and only then think about running an alternate fluid other than dino Dex III.

As a direct answer to your question, the Honda fluid should not be corrosive to your tranny...in addition to black00TA post, others have run it for leangthy durations and not had problems.

black00TA- I'm not a mechanical or lubrication engineer, or even a car hobbiest really...so my opinion is just that, my opinion. IMHO, you should be OK running the Honda fluid, but there's always that risk that long term your killing something prematurely.

Don't know if its the best, but I put in Red Line in rear and trans, so far so good.
Mobil 1 in the crank.

I changed my M6 trans fluid after ~90k. I had some B&M trick shift laying around in the garage and put 1 quart of it in with some regular Dextron III. Seems to be working just as good as it ever did.
Any thoughts on trick shift?
Am I unknowingly harming anything by using it?

I use the RP sychromax. It shifts much smoother than the factory ATF.

BAD LUK- Don't know if the two threads from over at BITOG will help you or not:

Does anyone know what B&M TrickShift and TickShift Synthetic really is?
1998 Camaro 6 speed: ATF or Synchromesh?

Hope it helps you...

Wink

Regular Dextron III is the only tranmission fluid that you need. The synthetic fluid will eat away at the blocker rings.

All? I doubt that. Why does GM put regular Dextron III in their transmissions then? My Extreme Duty T-56 has all of the latest updates (cryogenically treated Viper main shaft, Viper steel 3-4 shift fork, carbon fiber blocker rings, and billet syncro keys) and I still use regular Dextron III per the transmission builder (Finish Line Performance).

On another note... as far as automatics goes, synthetic will kill a 4L60E.

why does gm says our cooling system doesent need to be serviced for 100,000 miles?

why does gm say our plugs and wires are good till 100,000 miles?

why does gm say our dif fluids need to be changed every 7,500 miles??

honestly, if we listend to GM we wouldnt be here today....
