A4 to M6 swap complete. Clutch questions inside.
Well I was able to drive the car today. I bled and bled and bled it. ALso found out that on my master cylinder, the rod that goes to pedal has 2 crimp spots. I guess the crimp spots broke??? Well it wasn't coming all the way up. So I had that welded so it stays up and now the pedal is nice goes from top all the way to floor. Couple questions here though.
I have a used flywheel which I had resurfaced
Pro 5.0 shifter
Used Transmission
Used spec III clutch.
Used Master cylinder New slave
So I was driving, and tried to take it easy. I know they say to drive easy for about 500 miles, but this was used spec and was already worn in. SO, I decided to floor it a couple times. I THINK I need a shim, because when i Push clutch pedal in and drive below say 2500 rpm, car drives fine. When I'm racing it though doesn't want to come out of gear, and it is hard to change to next gear. Does this sound like pedal not disengaging? Or what? Clutch doesn't feel like it slips AT ALL at the higher rpms. Feels fine. Just changing gears. Any ideas?
OH one more thought, when going into gears part shifting, it is firm. Not hard, but you have to push a little to get into each gear. My clutch pedal goes to floor when I shift gears. Also engages only 3 or 4" from the floor once you start lifting up on clutch pedal.
Does everything SOUND right? Opinions welcome.
PS: My traction control isn't working now. Could it be a fuse?

Hey Mike, how is your short shifter? The one I got from the ebay had too long of bolts and it hit the console on the passenger side going into reverse and 6th. I guess after a couple of times putting it into reverse it wore a hole in my shift boot. I swapped out to the pro 5.0 handle and it shifts like butter (very smooth), and the position is much closer to the driver. I am gonna try out the UMI short stick since it is bevelled like the pro 5.0, just shorter.
hmmm, my trac control works after the install, just not my cruise control. The not coming out of gear does sound like the clutch isnt disengaging all the way. I would suggest either a shim or an adj master.
Glad to hear you got it up and running. I have ~300 miles on the clutch, so 200 more to go before I dump it!!

To confirm, it IS ok to floor it, just not "race" it right? Meaning go into first, floor it, EASILY go into 2nd, floor it, right???
Working on getting my hands on a shim, and gonna put that in. Where does the shim go? Any pics? THanks.

I have seen two different types of shims. One type goes between the slave the tranny, and the other sits between the slave and the T/O bearing.
If you seach, I am sure you will find some pics. I think the installuniversity has some pics of it also: http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...sity/index.htm

Clutch break in is about engagement and disengagemnet. You can get on it once it is in gear, you just shouldn't be slamming gears and dumping the clutch. The more stop and go driving the better for break in.
