A4 to M6 swap how will it feel with auto gears in rear?
Hi, I'm currently in the middle of swapping an A4 to M6 on my car. I was just curious how it would feel because I haven't changed the rear end, It's the stock 10 bolt from a 95 Z28. I'm pretty sure the gear ratio is different for an A4 than for an M6. Does anyone know the difference in gear ratios? After any swaps from A4 to M6 does it feel funny? I'm just looking for feedback. Thanks in advance for the help.

I believe the ratio is either 3.23 or 2.73 depending on how it was optioned. I dont know what you mean by "feel funny" but you will be able to hold the gears for longer without shifting and with the 2.73's I think 6th will be pretty useless unless you cruise at 90+
There is a calculator around here somewhere that you are able to play around with ratios and what not. When I checked with 2.73's you can hold first until 62 or so which is kinda cool.

I had 2.73's and 6th was truly useless unless I just wanted to say "I hit 6th" for the cool factor of my hard work. Of course, I was cruising at 85ish at the time.
I'd recommend 4.10's/.11's if you don't like 1st gear or traction, or 3.73's to be slightly more conservative yet still have somewhat of a powerband in 1st.
Your MPH speedo will be off by 10-13mph untill calibrated. Take into consideration the size of your aftermarket wheels if it applies.
Goodluck.

I did the swap and I still have 3.23's. You can definately tell a difference from driving a 3.42 or 3.73 car. For me, 6th gear is useless unless you are going 60 or more. I plan on getting a new rear with different gears but I just haven't gotten around to it.

Take it from an expert with 2.73 in a m6. i did my swap 4 months ago and with 2.73's if i got stuck on an incline by a stoplight i almost had to do a 2 grand clutch dump to get the thing moving again. Oh and clutch chatter man that thing was talking to me all the way down the highway. I then switched to 3.73's and there is nothing like chirping the tires through 4th. With 2.73's and the car floored I could hit 100 in roughly 10 seconds. with 3.73's i could hit it in 7 seconds. Oh your speedometer will be 54% low with 2.73's in it. I just got my ecm flashed to a 6 speed and that made a world of difference to. Do yourself a favor and get some motive 3.73's i set my backspacing to 0.09 and those things don't whine at all and i got the thick gear because of my 2 series carrier. With the gears the rebuild kit deluxe i spent about 450 bucks for all that. The install was 250. best mod I have ever done.
