Default Did A4 to M6 swap, what is skip shift?

Just for my own curiousity, can someone explain skip shift? I don't have it hooked up, and don't understand it. So if anyone could explain I would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

It makes you shift from 1st to 4th at low rpms, it will lock you out of 2nd and 3rd. Its for gas mileage, if you rev high enough you can hit 2nd or if you go into neutral you can hit 2nd. It's pretty lame.

It sucks? The way I understand it its installed on cars that wouldnt pass california's tough emisions laws without skipping a gear. But I geuss if you wanted you could keep use it to improve gas milage. But who buys an f-body to get good gas milage?

Although mileage is a component of the logic it is the reduced emissions that are the key for the skip feature. There is no one who will tell you they like the skip feature. At best people tolerate being dumped into an engine-lugging gear all the time. At worst it will take the ratio power away right at a time when you need to accelerate.

No worries, skip shift is no longer allowed to meet emissions standards on new vehicles

buy CAGS its like 20 bux and it plugs right in so it elimates the skip shift. Or I think you said you had Hptuners or ls1edit that will also get rid of it.

it's the skip shift eliminator. you can buy a resistor at radio shack for $1 and do the same thing. I think www.installuniversity.com has a nice write up on it.

another option is to have someone use EFILive, HPT, or Edit to turn it off.

and as all these other guys have said, skip shift is just a pain in the ***.

just buy the resistor. I got it free off my friend (he had a bunch of them and i was at his place, so he saved me a trip) and put it in. I hate that damn skip shift thing. Your light will still come on, but it will not lock you out of 2nd anymore.
